Canine Good Citizenship Program


Canine Good Citizen (CGC) is a certification program developed by the American Kennel Club (AKC) that is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The CGC Program is open to mixed breed and purebred dogs, and stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs.

The curriculum in our advanced course can prepare you to take the Canine Good Citizenship test. If you are aiming to take this test, please inform our instructor at the time of your enrollment.

10 test items are:
Download the brochure
Accepting a friendly stranger
Sitting politely for petting
Appearance and grooming
Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead)
Walking through a crowd
Sit and down on command and Staying in place
Coming when called
Reaction to another dog
Reaction to distraction
Supervised separation
Prerequisite:
Dogs must be able to sit and stay for at least a couple of minutes at a time
Dogs must know a basic place command
Dogs must be capable of being in close proximity to other dogs and people without displaying aggression in a public setting.
Testing
Is optional and must be registered for separately.
If you feel your dog can pass the 10 test items above without taking our course, please contact us about timing.

If we have room in a prescheduled test time the cost will be $25. If you schedule a private test the cost will be $50. If you schedule with 3 or more people, the cost will reduce to $25. each.
